Casi dos años después de que se pusiera fin a su fabricación en la planta de Solihull (Inglaterra), Land Rover trae de regreso a la vida al mítico Defender, el heredero del Land Rover Serie I, para celebrar los 70 años de vida de la marca.
El Defender vuelve en una edición especial limitada a sólo 150 unidades, y en una versión ultra potenciada, equipada con un motor V8, un modelo que rememora otras dos ediciones de alta performance del modelo: el Land Rover Serie III Fase 1 de 1979 y el Defender 50 Aniversario de 1998, ambos equipados con un 8 cilindros.
El Defender Works V8 es el Land Rover más potente y rápido jamás creado. Utiliza un V8 de 5.0 litros aspirado que produce 405 hp y 380 libras-pie de par (283 Hp más que la versión original).
Asociado a una caja automática de ocho marchas desarrollada por ZF, es capaz de acelerar de 0 a 62 mph (100 km/h) en 5,7 segundos y alcanzar 276 mph (172 km/h) de velocidad máxima.
Los frenos son totalmente nuevos, más grandes y efectivos, mientras que la suspensión fue modificada para añadir barras antirrolido, nuevos amortiguadores y resortes más gruesos, mientras que los neumáticos son 265/65 R18.
El Defender Works V8 se ofrecerá en versiones de tamaño 90 y 110, en ocho colores de carrocería (incluyendo dos acabados satín) combinados con techo, pasos de rueda y parrilla negros. Las luces son nuevas, full LED.
En el interior hay un claro ambiente deportivo, incluyendo butacas Recaro, tapiz de cuero blanco/negro en paneles y puertas, y el sistema de infoentretenimiento de Land Rover.
En Inglaterra, los precios parten en 150 mil libras. No es una ganga, está claro.

the ‘defender works V8’ is the most powerful and fastest version that land rover has ever created. The 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V8 powertrain produces 405 ps and 515 Nm of torque, a considerable jump from the standard 122 ps and 360 Nm. the ‘defender works V8’ will accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 5.6sec, while top speed is increased to 106 mph. the V8 powertrain will be fitted to 150 specially-selected and re-engineered ‘defenders’ for the 70th edition, complemented by an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission with ‘sport’ mode, uprated brakes and handling kit (springs, dampers and anti-roll bars), plus exclusive 18-inch diamond-turned sawtooth alloy wheels and ‘265/65 R18’ all-terrain tyres.
eight standard body colors include two satin finishes – contrasting with a santorini black roof, wheel arches and front grille – finished with machined aluminum door handles, fuel filler cap and ‘defender’ bonnet lettering. a comprehensive lighting upgrade includes bi-LED headlamps. full windsor leather interior trim covers the dashboard, door panels, headlining and recaro sports seats. land rover’s own classic infotainment system is also fitted.
