"We saw spring fashion popping up in January, and it really picked up steam in February," Larkin Brown, researcher and in-house stylist at Pinterest, shared with us. Specifically, exposed shoulders have had a strong presence, making it a sure thing that once the sun comes out, you'll be seeing dresses and tops like Miss Warne's everywhere. "The off-the-shoulder trend has firmly taken hold on Pinterest. Shoulder-baring looks have doubled since the beginning of January."
The other trends that Pinterest knows will be exploding on streets near you soon?
Bold earrings.
Statement necklaces and arm party situations have given way to pay-attention earrings. "Instead of the minimalist studs that previously dominated Pinterest, drop earrings and chandeliers are gaining ground," Larkin said.
Sexy, strappy sandals are a trend that's still building. "As temperatures rise, these are moving up, with pinning up 172% year-over-year," she said, noting that the team sees popular images of pairs styled with swimwear, casual looks, and date-night dresses.
No matter what the Coachella calendar might tell you, festival fashion extends way beyond two weeks in the California desert. "Our data shows that pinners have been planing their concert-going looks for month," Larkin explained. "Festival style pinning began as early as January and will probably peak in May."
"We're already at the peak of swimsuit pinning as people plan ahead for spring break and summer vacation. This year's trend are high-necked halter bikinis, from sporty styles to boho crochet."
